Working in the city - not all that fab

There seems to be a stereotypical view that office workers have relaxing jobs in a nice environment, and that if you work in the City, it's prestigious, or some bull like that. Let me tell you, it's neither relaxing, nor is it fun, nor is it prestigious in anyway.

What about the fun and camaderie I read about in novels, where people run to the local Starbucks together to gossip over a frappucino? :P

i actually like public transport. but i can imagine why a lot of people would be shitted over the state of cityrail, and not just because they're exposed to it everyday. my cousin works for them in the office sector and he gets a lot of shit for it, purely because he's associated himself with such a company. the fact of the matter is though, it's a lot easier to identify a problem than it is to fix it.

but yeah, i agree - it does get really crappy being squished into a train like a sardine. especially when you're reading mX and all the 'Letters' page is ABOUT how crappy it is being squished into a train like a sardine. it's a destructive cycle that is easily (however temporary) remedied with an mp3 player and some positive thinking! =)

Well, I don't mind the public transport part so much about working in the "City". It's more the smokers and the horrible City air (fumes, smoke, CO2, other air pollution) that really gets to me.

The trains, I don't expect any better, so I'm already used to it. I fell asleep the other day on the train and did the whole nodding thing and jerking my head back up, because the train kept stopping for long periods of time due to problems on the Nth Shore line, again. And I was needing to go to the toilet just a little, so I thought of all the people who got stuck on the Sydney Bridge breakdown trains for 2-3 hours, I would've pissed my pants!
